DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Mechanical engineering is the oldest, most diverse and versatile engineering branches. As such, the field of mechanical engineering touches virtually every aspect of modern life, including the human body, a highly complex machine.

Mechanical engineering is the application of the principles and problem-solving techniques of engineering from design to manufacturing to the marketplace for any object. The mechanical engineering field requires an understanding of core areas including mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis. Mechanical engineers today are pursuing developments in fields such as composites, mechatronics and nano technology.

Mechanical Engineering overlaps with aerospace engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, petroleum engineering and chemical engineering to varying amounts.

It is a large sub-division of engineering, which consists of topics like Mechanics, Design & Drafting, Structural analysis, Manufacturing Processes, Thermodynamics and Thermo-science, Fluid Mechanics, Automobile Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics, Biomechanical engineering and so on. Now a day most modern mechanical engineering companies include modern tools like 2D and 3D solid modelling computer-aided design, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Software, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), , computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), MATLAB, Python, MechaniCalc, Mathcad, Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) and so on into their existing design, analysis, manufacturing purpose.

Mechanical engineers are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible in order to produce safer, cheaper, and more efficient machines and mechanical systems. Engineer research is critical to an organization’s productivity and competitiveness. A few modern technology at the reducing edge impact on mechanical engineering. Namely they are Micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), Friction stir welding (FSW), Composites, Mechatronics, Nanotechnology, Finite element analysis, Biomechanics, Computational fluid dynamics, Acoustical engineering etc.

B.Tech (4 Years) in department of Mechanical engineering established in the year 2010 having intake of 60 at present. This department is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, Government of India and the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal.

Diploma (3 years) Mechanical engineering established in the year 2014 having intake 60 at present.
It possesses good infrastructural facilities, well-equipped laboratories, highly qualified and dedicated faculty and the atmosphere conducive for research activities. Mechanical Engineering includes design, development, manufacture, management, and control of engineering systems, subsystems, and their components. Typically the manufacturing, power, aerospace, automotive, materials, and processing industries employ mechanical engineers. As a result of the recent rapid expansion of technology, mechanical engineers also have become increasingly involved in computer aided design and visualization; robotics; bioengineering; environmental engineering; solar, wind, and ocean energy sources; and space exploration.
